This month was my second time to attend the Flourish Academy's Camera Club. My first camera club was in July - we practiced photographing newborns. This month we photographed a beautiful girl's senior portrait session. Our senior model took direction well, was confident and was willing to try a variety of looks and poses. I'm excited to share several of the photos I shot from that evening.
The Flourish Academy's Camera Club meets once a month in Beaver County and is open to photographers of all skill and experience levels from the Pittsburgh area. Every month focuses on different aspects of photography and allows photographers a chance to meet other Pittsburgh photographers. Heather hosts the Camera Club on her gorgeous property. She is extremely knowledgable, welcoming and friendly. This month Soozie, from Photography by Soozie lead the meeting by sharing tips and her style of directing senior models.
Please read on for tips on planning for your senior portrait session.
When choosing your outfits, consider not being "too trendy" so your photos won't look out dated in the future. I speak from personal experience, one of the outfits I wore included American Eagle hunter green corduroy overalls!
Think about what items to include that would best describe your personal style. Love your chuck taylors? Bring them along!
Bring clothes and personal items that reflect your interests.
When choosing your clothing, keep in mind that layers typically photograph well.
Think about how you would spend a "perfect" Saturday. Maybe we could reenact your ideal day and capture your senior portraits while doing what you love.
Chose a location that reflects your personality: urban Pittsburgh, a green field or park, countryside, etc.
I want to know about your favorite features, so I can focus on capturing them. Love your dimples? I want to know!
Think about what you want to remember from this time in your life. Let's find a way to incorporate it into your senior photo session.
I have a variety of props that are available to you, including a variety of blankets: Mexican, sari, lace, and plaid wool, quilts, black or gray stools, a red velvet chair, wooden folding chairs. You are also welcome to bring along your own.
