Forth of July Traditions in Pittsburgh, PA
I've celebrated many Fourth of Julys in Pittsburgh over the years. My family enjoys celebrating in Downtown Pittsburgh and in the South Hills neighborhoods of Mt. Lebanon, Brentwood, Whitehall and Bethel Park. My children love the Brentwood Parade and Fireworks, we have been going since they were newborn babies!
The Declaration of Independence was written 240 years ago in our great state of Pennsylvania. I enjoy reading the beautifully written document in my Civic/Citizenship class. Do you find it inspirational as well? "We hold these Truths to be self evident that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." I'm so thankful our founding fathers created a country that ensues our life, liberty and pursuit for happiness! I hope you have the opportunity to celebrate Independence Day with your family and/or friends and remember the foresight that Thomas Jefferson and our other founding fathers had to create a country with a system of the government that is "of the people, for the people by the people."
I'm not sure where the kids and I will celebrate this year, but I'm pretty sure we'll be celebrating at one of these places. How does your family celebrate Independence Day? Do you head into Pittsburgh or stay in the suburbs? What do your children enjoy doing on the 4th?
